Whirlwind Band earns Division 1, Advances to Area contest!
On Saturday, October 15, the Floydada “Spirit of the Winds” Marching Band earned straight Division 1 ratings from all judges at the UIL Region Marching Contest in Lubbock, TX at Lowrey Field. We are beyond excited for the band at this accomplishment.
The show is titled “Alien Invasion” by Luke McMillan. It is comprised of movements “Invasion,” “Resistance,” and “Take Me To Your Leader.”
Ms. Grice and myself are so extremely proud of the kids. They have worked very hard this year to elevate their musical and marching abilities. The group has matured tremendously since last year. Additionally, the ownership of the band, particularly from the student leaders, has really flourished. We are thrilled at this opportunity for the bandmembers to experience an Area contest (the last time Floydada attended area was in 2017), and we are even more thrilled at the possibilities the rest of the year will hold for All-State auditions, Solo and Ensemble contest, our large ensemble concerts and performances, and all our planned community outreach events.
Tickets for the Area contest, which will occur on October 29 at Lowrey Field, can be found here. A schedule of performances can also be found at this link: COMING SOON (tickets can also be purchased at the gate).
